ISLAMABAD, June 12: Minister for Culture Dr G.G. Jamal said the Norwegian government had signed an agreement with Unesco and provided financial assistance for conservation of Sheesh Mahal and development of a master plan for Lahore Fort.
Speaking in a meeting with Unesco Director George Sequeira and his team here on Monday, he said the target of the project was the rehabilitation and conservation of the sagging ceiling of main hall of Sheesh Mahal and restoration of Aina Kari, Monabat Kari and other artistic work.
The minister proposed three more cultural sites and monuments to be placed on Unesco’s world heritage list. Those were Kalash Valley and its people, lakes of Kaghan Valley, Saiful Maluk; and Darawar Fort in Cholistan.
In the meeting, it was informed that Unesco is going to start the project of mapping and collecting data of the Pakistan’s cultural sites as Pakistan did not have any documented record. Six districts of NWFP including Chitral, Swat, Charsadda, Mardan and Peshawar have been selected in the first phase.
