WICB identifies players for contracts

ST JOHN’S, June 3: West Indies Cricket Board has identified at least 16 cricketers for retainer contracts. “The board has given us that responsibility of rating players, which we are looking at now and then we will give them that information.

“They will decide how many players will go on retainer contracts and choose them according to our ratings,” West Indies convenor of selectors Joey Carew was quoted as saying in Trinidad Express.

“We have come up with 16 or 17 names and maybe from that board will tell us how many they want to be retained.

“I think it is imminent. They have a meeting this weekend and I think sometime in very near future we will know how many they want to contract,” he added.

Carew said he did know details about retainer contracts but expressed confidence that WICB and its cricket committee would address it properly.—Agencies
