HYDERABAD, June 3: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) is facing a Rs10-12 billion deficit on account of unauthorised extension of load by people, non-payment of electricity dues by official and private consumers and power theft.

Speaking at a news conference at the computer centre of Hesco in Wapda colony on Saturday, Hesco Chief Executive Maqbool Ahmed Khawaja said he had ordered disconnection of power supply to the Sindh government departments.

He said around Rs8 billion were outstanding against private consumers while Rs3.5 billion against the provincial government departments.

He said it had been decided in successive meetings with the chief secretary that the dues would be paid, but the response remained unsatisfactory.
