Bank robbed in Mirali Bazaar

By Our Correspondent

MIRAMSHAH, May 30: An armed gang looted Rs2.36 million from the Mirali Bazaar branch of the Muslim Commercial Bank here on Tuesday. Bank manager Fida Hussain told journalists that about six masked men stormed the branch at around 11am and held the staff hostage at gunpoint after snatching guns from security guards.

As the robbers collected Rs2.36 million in the bank, six of their accomplices kept shooting into the air outside, he said, adding that they also took away two computers and telephone sets.

“We contacted political authorities for help but they did not respond to our call,” the manager complained.

BOMB BLAST: Meanwhile, a soldier was injured when a roadside bomb went off after an army vehicle hit it near Amadkhel village.

Officials said the vehicle, part of a convoy, was moving from Datakhel to Miramshah.

The injured soldier was taken to a military hospital.

The troops resorted to firing in the area and arrested six suspected tribesmen under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.

Our Wana correspondent adds: A spokesman for the Taliban, Abdullah Farhad, claimed that several soldiers were killed in the explosion.
