ISLAMABAD, May 27: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have sent messages to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to express their sympathy and grief over the loss of lives in the earthquake that hit Java on Saturday.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened on hearing the news of tragic loss of lives and devastation, which has been caused by the quake in Indonesia,” President Musharraf said in his message.

“The people of Pakistan join me in conveying heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and those who have been affected by this devastation,” he added.

President Musharraf said that Pakistan was ready to provide assistance.

Mr Aziz extended condolence at the loss of precious lives and damage to property. “Our ... sympathies are with the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster. We hope that survivors who are still trapped under debris will be rescued swiftly,” he added.—APP
