Statement of Indian PM positive: FO

ISLAMABAD, May 25: Pakistan on Wednesday described as positive and forward-looking the statement of Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in which he had asked Indian troops not to commit human rights violations in Kashmir.

Talking to a private TV channel, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said: “We have seen the statement of the Indian PM. Its tone was positive and forward-looking.”

She said the Indian prime minister had also talked about peace and prosperity in Kashmir besides recognising the need to engage APHC. He had also admitted human rights violations in Kashmir, she said, adding that it was also positive and significant that the Indian PM talked about arrangements to bring closer the people living on both sides of the Line of Control.—APP
