GUJRANWALA, May 25: A minor boy allegedly implicated in a rape case by police was granted bail by a local court here on Thursday. Reports said Garjakh police reportedly released the accused in a rape case and instead arrested his younger brother Ali Raza for committing the crime.

The heirs of the rape victim and area people took out a procession to protest against the police and besieged Model Town DSP office. The police baton-charged the protesters and dispersed them. About 42 people, including women and father of the rape victim, were booked and half-a-dozen of them arrested.

Later, police exonerated the complainant and some other people, while sent the minor boy to jail on judicial remand.

Additional Session Judge Sohail Ikram accepted the boy’s bail and ordered his release. The case was pursued by advocates Pervez Jatala and Malik Shakeelur Rehman.
