Dr Saqib’s body sent to US

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 25: The body of a US national, Dr Saqib Abbasi, who was killed by his father on May 21, was sent to America for burial on Thursday.

The US embassy had asked the police to hand over Dr Saqib’s body.

Habiba Saqib, wife of Dr Saqib, who suffered three bullets to her chest in the incident, is still admitted to the Surgical ICU Ward of Rawalpindi General Hospital. According to doctors she is in critical condition.

The police are still clueless about the whereabouts of Mohammad Arif Abbasi, who escaped after killing his son and injuring his daughter-in-law.

Police teams are conducting raids in Azad Kashmir, the NWFP and the twin cities to arrest Arif.

A senior officer told Dawn that the managements of all airports had been requested to stop Arif from boarding any international flight, and inform the police if he tried to do so. The request was however made on May 23.

Replying to a question, he said there was no evidence which showed that Arif boarded an international flight between May 21 and 23.

He said it was not yet confirmed whether the killing was pre-planned or just a coincidence.

The relationship between Dr Saqib and his father had not been good since long which further deteriorated after Dr Saqib married Habiba against the will of his father.
