KARACHI, May 25: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation on Thursday repaired the grid station which had caught fire on Wednesday morning. It energised the grid and normalised the power supply to the affected areas.
A spokesman for the KESC said that the supply was partially restored on Wednesday night to the affected areas, including the Governor’s House, the CM’s House, five-star hotels and important offices connected to the grid station.
“KESC engineers and other staff members completed the repair work in the shortest possible time, and replaced the damaged power transformer with a new one,” he said.
He said that normal supply resumed on Thursday evening. There was no disparity between demand and supply of power during the peak evening hours and the KESC did not need to resort to loadshedding, he added.However, people from various areas said that power breakdowns continued in their respective localities.
A resident from Malir said that two-hour loadshedding, from 4am to 6am, was carried out in his locality. He argued that the small hours of a day could not be regarded as ‘peak hours’ and the two-hour loadshedding was incomprehensible.
A resident of Federal B Area, Block-15, said that 90-minute loadshedding was carried in his locality from 2:30pm to 4pm. Besides, frequent power fluctuation posed a constant threat to electrical appliances, he added. A power consumer speaking from Block 20 of Federal B Area said that intermittent breakdowns had made citizens’ life miserable.
A consumer from Phase VII, Defence Housing Authority, said that intermittent and prolonged power failures in her locality had become a routine, and the KESC was not taking any step to improve its system to stabilise the power supply.
A resident of Billy’s Terrace on Rashid Minhas Road said that a two-hour power failure had taken place in his locality in the morning.
