More rains, windstorm predicted
ISLAMABAD, May 24: Twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday received light rain shower with windstorm. Pakistan Meteorological Department said this was the fifth unusual spell in May. A fresh westerly wave was expected to grip the cities in the next 36 hours.
Rawalpindi and Islamabad received 1.4 millimetres rain. The speed of windstorm recorded at Rawalpindi was 121 kilometres per hour, while 55 kilometres per hour at Islamabad.
Heatwave conditions have already been subsided in the twin cities due to the rain spells.
The Met Office has predicted windstorm on Thursday while more rain on Friday.
APP ADDS: Monsoon rains during the current year were expected to be normal. The data on which the forecast was based would be finalised by the end of June.
“Although we are in the process of collecting data, but all indications point towards normal rains during the coming monsoon,” forecasting officer Mohammad Hanif said.
