Siblings injured as grenade goes off in field

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, May 23: A teenaged boy and his sister were injured on Tuesday when a hand-grenade accidentally exploded in a tobacco field in Gohati region. According to reports received here, 18-year-old Fazal Rehman and his 7-year-old sister Sadaf were collecting the leaves of white patta tobacco in a field.

The siblings found the device in the field and picked it up because they thought it was a toy. They were not aware of its explosive nature and started playing with it and throwing it up in the air. Suddenly it went off and both were seriously injured.

People working in nearby fields rushed to the field and found both of them in serious condition. The siblings were admitted to the DHQ hospital.

According to doctors, both patients have been referred to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
