By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 20: Thirteen people were killed and six others injured when a speeding passenger van overturned at Barakahu near here on Saturday.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the van overturned after colliding with an iron pole, a roadside pillar and the wall of a shop when its tyre burst.

The van of route-127 was on its way to Satara Meel from Islamabad.

Those killed in the accident included Kamran Shahzad, driver, Allauddin, Mohammad Kamil, Wali Dad, Mohammad Zahid, Tahir Manzoor, Nasiran Bibi, Zardan Bibi, Gul Naz, Shahzia Mumtaz and her seven-year-old son Hasnain Mumtaz. The bodies of two victims, including a woman, could not be identified.

The injured were identified as Shujaat Hussain, Mohammad Miskeen, Kareem Dad, Rahila Bashir, Bushra Bilal and 18-month-old Mariam Bibi.

The injured were taken to the Federal Government Services Hospital and the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Police said eight people died on the spot and five succumbed to their injuries in the hospitals.

The injured passengers told police that the driver was driving the van rashly and some of them had even asked him to slow down the speed but he did not.

According to a news agency, the wagon went out of the control of driver due to over-speeding and after crashing through the concrete road blocks rammed into the roadside shops.
