Red Rufus poised for another impressive show

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, May 20: Three-year-old chestnut colt, Red Rufus, should be in line for another bold showing when the Summer Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

After galloping to victory by five lengths in 1 min 4 2/5 seconds over a sprinting distance of five furlongs in the last meeting, he can still be a force to reckon with.

Drawn alongside 11 contenders in the five furlongs sixth race of the programme he starts as our days’ best.

His likely challengers are bay mare, Haseena-e-Arab and mare, Sonia.

A card of seven races all going over a distance of five furlongs has been chalked out for the day. The first race begins at 2.30pm.

Home Made, a 13-year-old bay mare, is fancied to make amends by winning the opening race. With one exception, she has been a failure so far. However, on her present form she should win on Sunday.

She should be chased by chestnut Lucky View and chestnut Arab King.

The consistent form of four-year-old bay colt, Baba Jani, has made him favourite for the second race that features 15 runners.

Bay filly, Bright And Early and bay colt, Laat Sahib are strong contenders for the places.

Nine-year-old bay, Auzy, who had to be content with second slot on May 14, should pick up spoils in the next which had a field of 18 aspirants.

Chand Aya, a nine-year-old dark bay and eight-year-old bay mare, Piyari Mehbooba, should settle for places.

Filly, Sky Girl, who finished second in her last outing with Fahim K in the saddle, is poised to land the fourth race. She should be followed by Terrorist and Daruwala.

If tried by connections, Syed Ismail Shah’s four-year-old bay filly, Closing Argument, should make it two in a row by grabbing the fifth race of the day.

She was piloted home by Ghulam Shabbir II by three lengths last Sunday.

Mera Jugnoo and Voo doo Doll looks certain for securing places.

Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s four-year-old chestnut colt, Silent Angel, should claim the concluding event.
