ISLAMABAD, May 16: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday explained the formula of rewarding informants, who provide prosecutable information to the bureau about a financial scam.

NAB said, depending on the nature of the case and significance of the information provided, a specific amount was paid to the informer by the bureau.

NAB said if an informer provided correct information to the bureau, which proved substantially helpful in prosecuting the corrupt, he was paid four to 20 per cent of NAB’s share of the total recovered amount.

In case of more than one informer, the amount of reward would be shared by the informers. NAB also attached great importance to the accountability of its own employees and any employee found entering into underhand financial deal with the accused party, he was tried in severe terms of law.

NAB encouraged citizens, it said, to report incidents of corruption/corrupt practices by any NAB official (any person providing authentic information with prosecutable evidence about corruption, leading to the conviction of any NAB officer will be awarded a reward of Rs1 million).

However any body found guilty of lodging baseless or frivolous complaint against any one to blackmail or defame a person shall also be tried and punished under the provisions of law.

NAB also assured the confidentiality of the names and addresses of the informers and said proper security would also be provided in case of high-rise tip-offs to the bureau.
