Road blocked in protest against power breakdown

By Our Corrrespondent

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), May 16: Tribesmen in Jamrud on Monday blocked the Peshawar-Torkham road to protest against loadshedding in their area. They chanted slogans against officials of the Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) and the local political administration for their failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

They expressed their anger at the Tesco authorities for subjecting them to prolonged loadshedding during the day when temperatures soar above 47 degrees Celsius.

Power outages have also caused an acute shortage of water in the area as most tube-wells have been rendered ineffective.

They also criticised frequent power fluctuations, which damaged a number of electrical appliances in Landi Kotal, Jamrud and Bara areas.

The Loe Shalman area is the worst effected by power cuts with the people complaining they suffered daily power suspensions extending between 16 and 18 hours.
