Reyan King deprived of a hat trick by Kicking King

KARACHI, May 14: With two successive wins under his belt, fancied three-year-old chestnut colt, Reyan King, was deprived of a hat trick when he was beaten squarely by Kicking King in a major upset in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
The two fought neck and neck when the race commenced and were pitched together after getting into straight, but Kicking King with Essa in the saddle, overtook Reyan King in the closing stages to win by two three quarter of a length.
Chestnut, Killer Instincts, settled for the third place while bay colt, Captain Black, completed the frame.
As predicted in these columns, M. Manzoor galloped three-year-old chestnut Red Rufus to victory in the opener. The sibling is owned by Syeda Abida Hussain and trained by Mansoor Alam.
Finishing five lengths behind was bay colt, Baba Jani while eight-year-old dark bay, X-Aar, secured third position.
Seven-year-old dark bay, Qandhar, with Sohail Ahmed astride, who was installed joint favourite, grabbed the next race beating mare, Sparkling Lady by half a length.
Six-year-old bay, Arab Star, with no reckoning, was favoured by the connections but it failed to deliver. It is owned and trained by Ghulam Channa.
Ten-year-old bay mare, Sherry The Great, surprised all and sundry when she picked up spoils in the third race beating Ladla by neck.
Chestnut, Lucky View, was backed with confidence by the followers of form but it let down the public. The running of the horse needs to be looked into.
Owned and trained by Mohammad Tufail, nine-year-old bay, Lovely Concept, reasserted his authority when he was sprinted home by M. Amjad. He beat Auzy by two lengths.
Running in a field of 18, four-year-old bay filly, Closing Argument, justified her rating when she was piloted home by Ghulam Shabbir II by three lengths in a smart time of 1 min 5 1/5 sec.
Dark bay filly, Sky Girl, had to be content with second slot.
Owner M. R. Hussain ended the day on a happy note when his bay filly, Savabeel ousted fancied Naseeb-e-Arab to claim the concluding event.
