‘A’ team offenders allowed to play domestic cricket
LAHORE, May 14: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday allowed four players of the 'A' team, including three who were arrested by Abu Dhabi police, to continue domestic cricket after reviewing the written report of the manager of that team on the incident.
The PCB, however, endorsed the fine of $300 imposed by manager Shafiq Ahmed on each of the players, considering the quartet were at fault as they went to Dubai from Abu Dhabi a day before the final of the EurAsia Cup, without manager's permission.
Pakistan won the final beating India.
A PCB press release issued on Sunday stated that: “after receiving the manager's written report, PCB has decided on the following disciplinary action relating to 'A' team players Hasan Raza, Taufiq Umar, Misbahul Haq and Zulqarnain Haider.
“No blame can be attached to the players, who were passengers traveling in a car whose driver was detained for speeding.
“The players were detained because they were not carrying their visas on them and were released immediately after the manager had presented copies of their visa documents.
“However, the four players were in breach of the code of conduct by proceeding Dubai from Abu Dhabi without getting the manager's permission.
“All four players have already been penalized one-day earning ($300) by the manager for their act.
“Considering the above factors, PCB has decided to reprimand the four players for breach of conduct and the plenty imposed by the manager was upheld by the PCB.
All four players will be free to continue playing domestic cricket,” the press statement concluded.
With the decision, the players will be available for the selection for Pakistan ‘A’s tour of Australia in July when ‘A’ teams of India and New Zealand also compete in a tournament in Cairns and Darwin.
