Call for tax office in Sargodha

Published May 15, 2006

SARGODHA: May 14: The Income Tax Association, Sargodha zone, has demanded a regional tax payer’s office here. Addressing an extra-ordinary meeting of the zonal tax bar here on Saturday, ITBA general secretary Muhammad Tassawer Mufti said under the Central Board of Revenue’s restructuring plan, regional tax offices (RTOs) were being established in different cities of the country.

The RTOs would be established where the department had its own buildings. Since the Sargodha offices were located in rented buildings, Mufti said this important town would be deprived of this facility badly needed by the business community.

Through a unanimous resolution, the meeting said since the Sargodha zone comprised seven districts, it should not be deprived of the facility.

Highlighting the potential of the zone, it was stated that annual revenue target was Rs 1235 million, with nearly 80,000 NTN holders and 23 income tax circle/units. The meeting noted that the Bahawalpur zone was being considered for the establishment of the RTO but the tax offices there were also housed in rented buildings. — Correspondent
