Alam captures singles crown

KARACHI, May 11: Unseeded Alam Afzal Janjua captured the 35 plus singles crown when he toppled third seed Rizwan Shamsi in straight sets of the second National Seniors tennis championship which concluded at the Karachi Gymkhana on Thursday.

Alam had a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 prevailing over his opponent.

However, Shamsi had some consolation when teaming up with Shahid Aziz the pair got the better of second seed Syed Qutub Ahmed-Hanif 6-0, 6-0 to pocket the 35 plus doubles crown.

Zahid Hussain-Akber Hayat Khan rallied to overcome Azheruddin-Khalid Mustaghees 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 to grab the 45 plus doubles title.

The mixed doubles title went to M. Iltifat-Seher Khwaja who accounted for Javaid-Saima Khan 6-2, 6-3.

Mixed doubles:M. Iltifat-Seher Khwaja bt Javaid-Saima Khan 6-2, 6-3
