Volleyball: NWFP beat Punjab

LAHORE, May 11: Police, Army, Wapda and Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) entered the semifinals of the Governor's Punjab Cup volleyball at Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala on Wednesday night.

Police and Army qualified from pool 'A' while Wapda and POF from pool 'B'.

Meanwhile, four group matches were decided which made the last four.

In one of the best matches, NWFP defeated Punjab 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 7-25 16-14. The match lasted two and half hours.

Police outplayed Army 3-0 to emerge as top team of pool 'A'. Police won with the score 25-12, 25-18, 25-18.

Wapda outclassed POF 3-0 to gain top position in pool 'B'.

Wapda sealed the fate of the match with the score 25-22, 25-15, 25-23.

In the last match, Pakistan Steel defeated Azad Jammu Kashmir 25-12, 25-16, 25-14.

In the prefinals, Police will meet POF while Wapda clash with Army.

Punjab Volleyball Association president, Zafar Abbas Luk, has announced a cash prize of Rs300,000 for the winners and Rs150,000 for the runners-up, besides Rs75,000 for the third position holders.
