Paint prices go up

GUJRANWALA, May 10: Like other commodities, the paint manufacturers raised the prices of their products after an increase in the prices of petrol.

The traders said at a meeting held here on Wednesday that the prices of petrol was increased by around Rs2 per litre while the paint manufacturers enhanced the prices by Rs10 to Rs15 per litre without any justification.

They criticised the government for not controlling the prices and demanded that prices of sugar, cement and petrol should be reduced immediately.

DISQUALIFIED: Labour councillor of Wazirabad union council Sheikh Yasin was disqualified by an election tribunal on Wednesday for submitting fake documents of his property and ordered by-election to the seat.

Defeated candidate Asif Khan moved the Hafizabad election tribunal pleading that Mr Yasin was a rich man and not eligible for contesting election on labour seat.

Moreover he submitted fake documents of his property.

Meanwhile, defeated general councillor Shahid Hanif Virk of Kamoki union council No 150 was declared successful by the tribunal in recounting of votes.

APCA STRIKE: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) observed complete pen-down strike in support of their demands and staged a rally here on Wednesday.

The low paid employees of government and semi-governments gathered outside district health office and paraded on Sialkot Road led by divisional president Tahir Bhatti. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans. They demanded increase in salaries.

STABBED TO DEATH: A youth was stabbed to death by unidentified people in Mandiala Warriach Cantonment here on Wednesday.

Ali Raza, 18, was present in his house when unidentified men called him out at night and attacked him with knives. They threw his body in fields and escaped. Police have removed the body to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.
