PESHAWAR, May 7: The Federal Investigation Agency has decided to take legal action against the district nazim of Swabi for supporting an alleged human trafficker, a senior official told Dawn here on Sunday.

Director General FIA Tariq Pervez had informed federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday about the nazim’s alleged interference in the action taken by the FIA against the accused during a meeting with him in Peshawar, the official said.

Mr Pervez also intends to inform President Gen Pervez Musharraf about the April 26 incident, when the nazim allegedly used force to get a relative freed from the Kalu Khan police, the officials said, while talking about his discussion with the federal minister.

Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao told Dawn on Saturday that they had taken strong exception to the incident and decided to take legal action against those who were involved in the case of human trafficking and their supporters.

Meanwhile, the FIA office in Abbottabad arrested an alleged human trafficker from Hawailian on Sunday, said a senior official.

Acting assistant director Naeem Khan said that he had arrested Gulzeb from Hawailian on Sunday. He was wanted by the FIA passport circle in Peshawar in a case registered in 1999.
