Simoom poised to win first race
LAHORE, May 6: Three-year-old chestnut filly, Simoom, who is showing improvement consistently in each of her running, should win the first race during the first Lahore Summer Meeting to be held at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Owned by a Hong Kong based Pakistani businessman and a former diplomat, Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah, Simoom was beaten by Wendy Trace Sunday Last.
She should make amends this time and win the race. She has only to beat Dam Dama Dam and Spring Breeze.
There are a dozen horses in the second race barring last-minute withdrawals. Of them three come into reckoning, namely, Che Guera, Ministry, Billoo The Great and Daizy Against All. They should fight it out.
The dark-bay colt Fido Dido looks poised to win the third race. This colt from Cry For The Clown should have the better of Red Flame and Golden Faith.
Dark-bay filly Para Game beaten to second place last time out, looks a cut above in class vis-a-vis her 17 rivals in the fourth race.
Charming King is the one and only contestant, who could pose some challenge to her before bowing out.
Zargar, Eid and Don t Follow are the chance ones in the fifth race. It should be a close contest between the three.
One trainer has three horses in the sixth and last race featuring a small card.
They are Achilles, Trace hit and Trace Kim besides speedy Miss Pole. The main contest should be between Trace Hit and Miss Pole.
In view of the hot summer setting in its peak in the Punjab metropolis, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards has decided to start night racing from Sunday.
Only the first race will be held in daylight at 5.30pm.
The rest of the five events will be gone through under floodlights.
