ISLAMABAD, May 4: Army athletes who excelled at the international level were given cash prizes by the head of the Army Sports Directorate Brig. Saleem Nawaz.

Boxer Shoukat Ali scooped up the biggest prize of Rs 550,000 for winning gold at the 2005 Asian Championship in Vietnam and this year's King's Cup in Thailand.

Nouman Karim, another boxer received Rs 200,000 for his silver medal in the 2005 Asian Championship while Faisal Karim got Rs 10,000 on landing a bronze at the King's Cup.

Hockey player Mohammad Imran, as a member of the Pakistan team that won a silver at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne was presented Rs 150,000.

The baseball team of Nabeel Ahmed, Asjid Mahmood, Kamran Mahboob, Imtiaz Ali, Kamran Iqbal, Mohammad Arif, Farooq Khan, Shamraiz Khan, Mohammad Zahid and Sarfraz Ahmed were awarded Rs 300,000 for their gold finish at the recent Asian Baseball Championship in Rawalpindi.
