SWABI, May 4: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has demanded Rs70 million from the Swabi Development Authority (SDA) to provide electricity to the Shahmansoor Township, it is learnt.

Sources said the SDA director had asked for immediate power supply to the township to expedite construction activities there. But, the SDA asked Pesco to reduce the charges from Rs70 million, saying it would put extra burden on flat-owners.

“Whatever we pay to Pesco it will be people’s money and we hope it will be reduced,” said an SDA official.

The sources said that federal and provincial ministers had also been approached to persuade Pesco to reduce the amount.

Meanwhile, Shahmansoor Township action committee president Mohammad Ijaz Ali and general secretary Aurangzeb said they would continue struggle for acquiring flats for the people of Shahmansoor who had given their land for the township. He demanded a quota in the township for the people of Shahmansoor.
