Joy for Aamir; disappointment for Arshad


KARACHI, May 2: Promising Aamir Atlas Khan is one match away to enter the main rounds of Liverpool 08 Open squash championship following his triumph over Namibia’s Ryan Thomson in the first qualifying round on Monday.

According to the details of the international squash circuit's richest ranking event in England for five years made available on Tuesday, Aamir took only 31 minutes to outwit Thompson 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 to enter the final qualifying rounds of the where he will face Egypt's Ramay Ashour.

But there was disappointment for another Pakistani, Arshad Iqbal Burki, who was thrashed by Australian Paul Davis in straight games. Davis who is ranked 40 places lower than Arshad in the rankings won the match easily with the score of 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 in 34 minutes.

Pakistan number one, Shahid Zaman is the other player of the country featuring in US$77,500 competition. He has been placed in the main rounds of the tournament starting from Wednesday.
