KARACHI, May 1: Naib Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Liaquat Baloch has accused the government of harbouring terrorist elements, including those involved in the April 11 blast in Nishtar Park.

Addressing a protest demonstration held outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday, he deplored that the government had failed to expose any of the terrorists involved in the blast despite the passage of 20 days, and demanded setting up of a committee headed by the chief justice of Pakistan to investigate and trace out the terrorists.

He accused the United States, Israel and India of being behind the violence, riots and terrorism taking place in different parts of the country, especially in Balochistan as well as northern and tribal areas.

Mr Baloch said that the government had completely failed to deliver and should step down immediately.

He said that foreign hand was involved in the killings of ulema and prominent figures, including Mufti Shamzai, Hakeem Said and Aslam Mujahid, as well as the murder of Akmal Shirazi and the May 12, 2004 tragedy. He accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of being an ‘agent of the foreign conspirators in Pakistan’.

He said that the educational institutions in Karachi were being consciously turned into slaughterhouses and alleged that those who were attacking students enjoyed protection and patronage by police, Rangers and agencies.

JI Karachi Amir Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, said that after the Nishtar Park incident, an armed group had resorted to torturing and killing IJT students and disturbing educational peace in the city. He said that an IJT activist, Akmal Shirazi, was killed and another person, Javed, was injured in a classroom of the college which was located in the high-security zone. They attackers enjoyed full protection by law-enforcement agencies, he added.

MPA Yunus Barai said that the country was moving towards anarchy and lawlessness.

The demonstration was attended by a large number of JI, IJT and Pasban activists.—PPI
