HYDERABAD, April 29: Prominent intellectuals and human rights activists have demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the gang rape of women in Daharki and appealed to the chief justices of Supreme Court and Sindh High Court to take its suo motu notice.

In a joint statement issued on Friday Professor Mushtaq Mirani, Nazeer Memon, Professor Badar Soomro, Zulfiqar Halepoto, Fiza Qureshi, Amar Sindhi, Irfana Mallah, Fakhira Abro and Zahida Khuhro strongly condemned the gang rape of Shar women by Pathan tribesmen in Daharki district.

The Pathans had kept the Shars’ village besieged for 15 days, displayed weapons in public, issued threats to the family, and finally realised their threats by going ahead to rape innocent women, but all this failed to attract administration’s attention, they said.

They demanded that the entire administrations of Daharki and Rahimyar Khan be sacked and strict action be taken against them.
