Chicken import to AJK banned

MUZAFFARABAD, April 29: The district administration Muzaffarabad has banned, with immediate effect, import of chicken from Mansehra and Rawalpindi in view of reported outbreak of bird flu in these two adjoining districts.

A notification issued by additional deputy commissioner Attaullah Atta on Friday said that the ban had been imposed following newspaper reports that some bird-flu cases had been diagnosed in poultry farms of Mansehra and Rawalpindi. However, the notification exempts import of one-day old chicks from the ban.

The ADC said that those found bringing chicken from the two districts or selling it in Muzaffarabad would be penalised under section 188 of the penal code.—Correspondent
