SWABI, April 29: The Swabi Tehsil Council has demanded that 66 surplus employees should be sent back by the Tehsil Municipal Administra-tion to their respective departments.

Speaking at a session of the council on Saturday, members said the TMA should withdraw Rs7.5 million allocated for salaries of the surplus employees because it was a burden on the tehsil council and urban union councils.

The council also passed the revised budget of Rs63.2 million.

The council members said appeals had been made to the provincial government for readjusting the surplus employees but to no avail, adding that further delay in this connection would put additional burden on the local government.

They said they had informed officials concerned that the Tehsil Municipal Administra-tion would be forced to fire the surplus staff if the government did not adjust them according to the earlier plan.

The surplus employees have demanded that they should be adjusted according to the pledges made by the government. They said they would approach the service tribunal if the TMA fired them.
