No pressure group in PML: Majeed
CHAKWAL, April 28: Pakistan Muslim League Senior Vice- President Lt-Gen (retired) Majeed Malik on Friday rejected the impression that any forward bloc or pressure group was evolving in the party under his leadership.
He was talking to reporters at his residence. Referring to a meeting of party leaders held at his residence, he said it aimed at discussing ways to strengthen the party because a strong Pakistan Muslim League was the need of the hour for the survival of democracy in the country.
Mr Malik said Mian Manzoor Watto, Hamid Nasir Chatha, Ijazul Haq, Saleem Saifullah, Kabir Ali Wasti, Akram Zaki, Gohar Ayub and Tariq Azim attended the meeting, which was also joined, later on, by the party president, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
He said all the leaders expressed their concern that they were not being consulted in important political matters and were also ignored at party level.
There was a consensus that serious efforts were required for strengthening Pakistan Muslim League in view of the forthcoming general elections of 2007.
Mr Malik said Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had assured the party leaders that their reservations would be removed and they would be given due importance.
MAN ELECTROCUTED: An old man, Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of Murid village, was electrocuted while working on a fodder cutter on Friday.
MEDIA GROUP: A committee has been formed to formulate manifesto for a media watch group being constituted in Chakwal District.
This was decided in a workshop arranged by Journalist Resource Centre on Friday.
The meeting presided over by Maqbool Bhatti was attended by local journalists. District Information Officer Chakwal Tanveer Khalid also attended the workshop as an observer.
The participants were told that the media watch group would monitor the development work in the district, keeping a close eye on malpractice and highhandedness of different government departments as well as political victimisation.
