LONDON, April 26: Two men arrested as part of an ongoing terrorism investigation in central Scotland have been released without charge, their lawyer said on Wednesday. Pakistani national Mohammed Rafiq, 40, and local businessman Mohammed Niaz, 46, were told they were free to go early on Wednesday, solicitor Aamer Anwar told the domestic Scottish Press Association news agency.
They were detained under the Terrorism Act 2000 on Monday in Alva, Clackmannanshire, and during the search of a property in Niaz’s home town of Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, about six miles from Alva.
It followed the arrest of shopkeeper’s son Mohammed Siddique, 20, in Alva on April 13.
Both the released men are uncles of Siddique, who is still being held by police in Glasgow with his brother Asif, 25, who was arrested alongside Rafiq on Monday.
Anwar said: “They (Rafiq and Niaz) were released at 2:30 am (0130 GMT) and are back home with their families. They have not been charged. As we stated at the time, Mr Niaz and Mr Rafiq were completely innocent.”—AFP
