Rookie breaks legends’ record

LONDON, April 26: Rookie batsman Jonathan Hughes was celebrating on Tuesday night after smashing a record jointly held by cricket legends Sir Garfield Sobers of the West Indies and India's Ravi Shastri, according to the Sun on Wednesday.

Hughes smacked 42 off one over for North Leeds in a regional cup match between amateur sides on the way to an unbeaten 126, even though it was only the second time he had batted for his club.

The 29-year-old managed to hit six sixes, a four and a two off a single over after the bowler, Craig Hobson bowled two no-balls.

The previous record of 36 from six sixes was achieved by Sobers playing for Nottingham in 1968 and Shastri, playing for Mumbai in 1985. —AFP
