EurAsia Cricket Series: Winning start by Pakistan ‘A’

KARACHI, April 26: Pakistan ‘A’ opened their campaign in the inaugural EurAsia Cricket Series with a comfortable 123-run victory over Holland ‘A’ at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

After piling up 306 for four in their 50 overs, Pakistan ‘A’ restricted their Group ‘A’ opponents to 183 for eight after winning the toss in the day/night tournament.

The highlight of Pakistan ‘A’s innings was a blazing unbeaten 77 by Bazid Khan, son of Pakistan batting great Majid.

Bazid, who faced 50 balls and struck 11 boundaries, dominated the unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 121 with Misbahul Haq(45 off 37 balls, seven fours).

Earlier, Taufiq Umar (62 off 96 balls, six fours) and Mohammad Hafeez (57 off 63 balls, six fours) added 97 for the second wicket.

It was Holland ‘A’s second defeat after India ‘A’ annihilated them by 202 runs on Sunday.

Hosts United Arab Emirates emerged victorious in the tournament’s opening match on Saturday when they beat Ireland ‘A’ by eight wickets in Group ‘B’.

Ireland ‘A’ also lost to Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Monday’s tie by 87 runs.
