Hydropower tribunal’s term extended

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 26: The time given to the arbitral tribunal on the Wapda-NWFP dispute over net hydroelectric power profit has been extended by six months till Oct 31. “The parties in terms of Sub Clause (b) of Clause 4 of the Arbitration Agreement (have) extended the period for giving an award up to 31, 10, 2006,” said an announcement of the tribunal on Wednesday.

The five-member tribunal led by former chief justice Ajmal Mian appointed on Oct 31, 2005, was required to adjudicate the dispute by April 30.

The tribunal has released details of its progress and dates of future hearings, which were postponed on Tuesday till June 12.

Tribunal held its preliminary hearing on Nov 10, 2005, in which the NWFP government filed an application for a direction against Wapda to furnish copies of certain documents to enable the authority to prepare a ‘memo of claim’.
