HYDERABAD, April 25: Bakht Ali, a resident of Qasimabad, has appealed to the authorities for the release of his brother Inam Khan from the Hatri police custody.

Speaking at a news conference in the press club here on Tuesday, he claimed to have seen his brother in the lock-up of the Hatri police station on April 13, 2006. But since then, his whereabouts were not known, Mr Ali said.

If Inam Khan had been murdered, an FIR should be registered against DPO investigation Hyderabad, Khalid Mustafa Korai and supervising investigation officer Bashir Mangi of the police station, said Bakht Ali, son of Ghulam Rasool Rind.

He said that on April 12, 2006, two police officers of the Hatri police station came to his house in Phase-II, Hyderabad, and made inquiries about his brother. Inam had been out of the house at that time and the policemen had told him to send his brother to Hatri police station, Mr Ali said.

The following day, Inam Khan left for the Hatri police station, but did not return home, Mr Ali said, claiming that he found the brother in the police station lock-up when he went there.

However, policemen on duty had disallowed him to meet his brother and the SHO concerned denied that his brother had been arrested, he said.

Mr Ali said he had appealed to the president and prime minister to save the life of his brother, but in vain.

Giving the background, Bakht Ali said six or seven years ago, then DSP of Shahdadpur Khalid Mustafa Korai had registered a criminal case against Inam Khan, but a court acquitted him.

Bashir Mangi, the then SHO of Shahdadpur police station, developed a grudge against Inam and raided their house violating the sanctity of law.

According to Mr Ali, Bashir Mangi is now working as supervising investigation officer of the Hatri police station while Khalid Mustafa Korai was DPO investigation Hyderabad.

When contacted on telephone, Mr Khalid Mustafa Korai and Bashir Mangi denied about having any inkling about the alleged arrest of Inam Khan.

Bashir Mangi confirmed that Inam Khan had been arrested in a tractor dacoity case in Shahdadpur some years ago, but thereafter he had never met Inam Khan.

Mustafa Korai said that many years ago, Inam had been prosecuted for some crime, but since then he had never seen his face.
