KARACHI: MQM plans Jashn-i-Lateef

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, April 25: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Tuesday announced that it would celebrate two-day Jashn-i-Lateef in Khairpur on May 4 and 5.

This was spelt out in a news conference by the MQM deputy convenor Dr Farooq Sattar at Khurshid Memorial Hall. In addition to social, literary, and cultural programmes, a public meeting on May 5 will be part of the celebrations. This public meeting will also be addressed by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

Dr Farooq Sattar said that Mr Hussain had recently declared to celebrate 2006 as Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai's year and thus these programmes had been arranged by the MQM. He appealed to people to attend this public meeting in large number to make this public meeting successful.

He said that the MQM wanted to demonstrate its solidarity with the people by organising these programmes and emphasise that people of Sindh were united against feudal system. He also appealed to different zones of the MQM to start preparations of this event so that it could be celebrated in a befitting manner.

Dr Farooq Sattar said that Sindh was a place Sufis and saints but through a conspiracy ethnic violence was unleashed during 1970 and the people of Sindh were pitted against each other.

“Now under the dynamic leadership of Mr Hussain, peace had been restored and we are celebrating this Jashn-i-Lateef,” he said.
