Durham take early lead

LONDON, April 23: Durham became the first team to top the County Championship table this season after they completed an innings and 56-run victory over Kent in their opening First Division fixture on Saturday.

At Canterbury: Durham (22pts) beat Kent (5pts) by an innings and 56 runs.

Durham 575 (G. Muchall 219, P. Mustard 130, G. Pratt 52; M.M. Patel 4-100); Kent 340 (M. van Jaarsveld 83, D.I. Stevens 62, D.P. Fulton 62) and 179 (M.M. Patel 61).

At Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire (9pts) drew with Yorkshire (6pts).

Nottinghamshire 417-8 declared (C.M.W. Read 102 not out, D.J. Bicknell 95, R.J. Warren 93, W. Smith 60) v Yorkshire.

At Hove: Sussex (9pts) drew with Warwickshire (12pts).
