PESHAWAR, April 23: Federal Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday said federal government was likely to allow political activities in the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
Mr Sherpao was talking to a delegation of the Mohmand Welfare Organisation, led by its president Sher Afzal Khan.
The interior minister said that political parties would be allowed to extend their activities in the tribal areas, adding that the federal government was reviwing various aspects in this regard.
Interior Minister said that religious parties were able to extend their influence over the region because of the ban on politicking in Fata.
He said that tribesmen would have more options available to them if political parties were allowed to start their activities in tribal areas.
The delegation requested the federal minister to rename Munda dam as Mohmand Dam.
They also called for providing people displaced by Munda dam adequate and prompt compensation and said that they should be provided with more employment opportunities.
They also urged the federal government to spend the dam’s net hydel profit on the development of the Mohmand Agency.
The minister assured the delegation that Munda dam affectees would be given jobs, adding that their other demands would also be give due consideration. — APP
