Seven water pumps out of order in Gujranwala

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, April 23: Wasa’s water supply system in the city has been adversely affected as its seven major water pumps have gone out of order.

It has been learnt that Wasa had installed the pumps at Moonwali Ground, Janat Bibi Park, Peoples Colony, Satellite Town (phase-I and Phase-II), besides Dhulley and Sheranwala Bagh (Phase-I and Phase-II), some years ago which went out of order.

Concerned citizens blame Wasa administration for the prevailing water shortage in the city, alleging it failed to get these pumps repaired or replaced despite the public outcry.

Wasa Managing Director Muhammad Bashir Tarer admitted that the pumps needed to be replaced but there were no funds available for the purpose.

He said Wasa had informed the Punjab government about funds’ shortage and demanded Rs7.2 million for the purchase of new motors for water supply.

He said the city district government had also been asked to provide funds to Wasa for maintenance of the water supply system.
