No room for turncoats, says PPP

By Our Correspondent

ATTOCK, April 23: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Punjab chapter president Qasim Zia has said there is no room for turncoats in the party as they have damaged the party interests during the last seven years.

Talking to local mediapersons here on Saturday evening, Mr Zia said those who had betrayed the party would have to suffer serious consequences, adding Benazir Bhutto would return to the country before the next general elections.

He said opposition parties under the platform of ARD were pressuring the government to hold free and fair elections. He was optimistic that his party would once again come to power with people’s support.

He said a charter of democracy would be announced after the meeting of exiled leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto in London. He refuted reports that the PPP was making frequent contacts with government representatives and would enter into a deal with the ruling party to come to power.

“It is a propaganda of anti-democratic forces to sabotage the ongoing democratic struggle of PPP which has reached its climax,” he said.

Earlier, addressing a public meeting at the residence of Syed Azmat Bukhari Advocate after the latter joined the party, PPP leaders said the party would sweep the next general elections.

They said majority of leaders in the present ruling party consisted of opportunist politicians who could not bring stability in the country even under the military regime.
