ISLAMABAD, April 22: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar has decided to meet all the jailed leaders and workers of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) presently detained in different jails of Punjab in the next few days.
ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi on Saturday told Dawn that Mr Khar had already launched his campaign of meeting the jailed leaders two days ago when he called on acting president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi at Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore.
Mr Khar remained with Mr Hashmi for about two hours and discussed with him the prevailing political situation in the country and the strategy for the next general elections.
The two leaders also discussed ways and means to strengthen cooperation between the PPP and the PML-N, the main component parties of the ARD.
Mr Khar, who has recently returned to the PPP, is now planning to meet former speaker Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. According to Mr Amrohvi, the meeting between Mr Khar and Mr Gillani is expected next week.
