South Korea stun Pakistan
CHANGZHOU (China), April 22: New Zealand and South Korea will contest Sunday's final of the World Cup qualifying hockey tournament after scoring victories overs England and Pakistan in semifinals on Saturday.
New Zealand beat England 3-1 and South Korea accounted for Pakistan 2-1.
All the four teams have qualified for the World Cup in September in Moenchengladbach, Germany. Japan and France will meet for the final berth on Sunday.
The Kiwis led England 2-0 by the break on goals by Simon Child, the first from a rebound off the crossbar.
England rallied in the second half, scoring through James Tindall, but New Zealand restored a two-goal gap with a penalty by Hayden Shaw.
South Korea and Pakistan were goalless in a tough, defensive first half. Koreans struck through Eun Seong Hong and Nam Yong Lee to take 2-0 lead.
Mohammad Imran's converted a penalty corner to halve South Korea's lead, but Pakistan failed to snatch the equaliser.—AP
