Johnnei Walker fancied to repeat winning feat

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, April 22: Four-year-old chestnut colt, Johnnei Walker, who galloped to maiden victory in the last outing, is fancied to repeat his winning feat in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

After consistent failures, he was allowed to run on merit by the connections and returned with flying colours by two lengths with Saleem Ahmed aboard.

However, a fine of Rs1, 000 was imposed on the rider for ‘unsatisfactory riding’. He had to be careful second time.

He is drawn in a field of 17 contestants in the five furlongs fourth race of the day. He start as our days’ best and expected to oblige the punters by making it two in a row.

He should be chased by chestnut colt, Terrorist and mare, Princess Ridda, for the places.

A card of seven races has been chalked out for the day and the first begins at 1.00pm.

Seven-year-old bay mare, Ultimate Victory, who had a dismal run in the recent past, is tipped to make amends by picking up the opener. Home Maid and Ladla should pose her serious challenge in accomplishing the task.

Also in the run is mare, Sweet Sindhri, who could provide an element of surprise.

Daruwala, an eight-year-old bay horse, should pick up spoils in the next race with 12 aspirants in fray.

Among the contestants, Smashing Arrow and Tun Baba Tun look fine to grab places.

With a strong field of 18 horses, three-year-old filly, Annaba, should sprint to victory in the third race. Though she was among those who also ran in the last outing, yet she can prove her mettle if tried.

Mare, Raat Ki Rani and bay horse, Auzy, should follow her for the next two places.

However, chestnut, Leo Again, can upset the applecart.

Five-year-old bay mare, Smiling Face, should dominate the fifth race. It is a division 1 race for Pakistani horses in class V11 going over a sprinting distance of five furlongs.

After registering two wins on trot in February, she played hide and seek with her stable mates in the following meetings and finished on the board once. She now looks a good thing to win honours.

Mare, Haseena-e-Arab and filly, Bright And Early, should retain their second and third places.

Three-year-old bay filly, Miss Millee and chestnut, Dil Phaink, both from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, are joint favourites and one of them should sprint to victory in the sixth race.

Dragun Heart should grab the concluding event which has the shortest field of eight runners.

Following is the field and our selection.
