Asif leads team to victory

LAHORE, April 21: A last minute goal by four-goal Asif Tiwana steered Candy Land Yellow to a 6-5 1/2 win over Friends in the Novices Cup polo on Friday.

Friends led the first chukker 2 1/2-1 supported by a 1 1/2 -goal handicap.

Asif drew first blood converting a 30-yard penalty hit. Thereafter three-goal Sameer Oberoi scored his first goal for the losers to maintain the slim lead.

Friends were again in front (4 1/2-3) after the eventful second chukker.

Abid Nawaz Khan scored a field goal for Friends to increase the lead (3 1/2-1). But the winners reiterated through Azam Hayat Noon, who also crowned a field effort to reduce the margin (3 1/2-2). Sameer fired his second goal for Friends while Asif his second for the winners but only to slim the margin of the lead.

When Sameer pumped in his third goal in the start of the fourth chukker, Friends were leading comfortably 5 1/2-4.

But the winners scored back-to-back goals to change the fortune. First Qadeer Ashfaq scored a field goal and then Asif earned his third goal, converting a 30-yard penalty hit which proved the decider.
