Four perish as bus overturns

GUJRAT, April 21: Four passengers were killed while 10 others received injuries when a speeding bus overturned on Kharian-Dinga Road near Shahana on Thursday.

The driver of the Dinga-bound bus (GTB-2633) lost control over the steering on a dilapidated road. Resultantly, Akhlaq, Javed, Qanoon Bibi and an unidentified man died instantly while 10 others suffered injuries. They were admitted to hospital where two of them were stated to be in critical condition.

Accidents are on the rise on Dinga Road due to the dilapidated condition of the road. The contractor had disappeared about a year ago without completing the construction work.

INJURED: A councillor was shot at and injured while a driver was looted by robbers in two separate incidents in and around the city during the last 24 hours.

Masked robbers intercepted the motorcycle of councillor Chaudhry Rauf and tried to snatch cash from him at gunpoint near Bidar Marjan in Kharian. For offering resistance, outlaws opened fire on him. He sustained critical bullet wounds and was admitted to the Kharian CMH.

Some highwaymen stopped a wagon near Bolani in Sarai Alamgir and snatched Rs5,000 in cash and a cell phone from driver Naeem.
