Boy recovered, kidnapper held

RAWALPINDI, April 21: Police on Friday recovered a six-year- old boy kidnapped for ransom and arrested the kidnapper along with the ransom money. Hassan Sadiq, son of Ghulam Sadiq, a hawaldar, was kidnapped from outside his school in Lalazar on Thursday.

Police said the father of the missing boy was at his office when he received a phone call from his nephew, Muhammad Qayyum, who told him that Abdur Rauf had kidnapped Hassan Sadiq for ransom.

Ghulam Sadiq told the police that the kidnapper was demanding Rs400,000 as ransom for the safe return of his son.

Police said that after negotiations between the kidnapper and the parents of the boy, the ransom money was reduced to Rs50,000. The kidnapper had also threatened to kill the boy, if his parents contacted the police.

When ASP Civil Lines Muhammad Azhar was contacted, he confirmed that the boy was recovered on Friday and the kidnapper was also arrested along with the ransom money. “Our main concern was the boy’s safety,” the ASP remarked.—Staff Reporter
