Reports said armed bandits were looting passersby along the canal when a police motorcycle squad reached there and tried to overpower outlaws. But they opened fire on the policemen which was returned. During the shootout, constable Mureed Hussain died instantly while constable Muhammad Azam sustained serious injuries. However, outlaws managed to escape after committing the crime.

The case has been registered on the report of Qamar Abbas, son of Mr Alvi, under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC in which the complainant said that he was some meters away from the vehicle of his father near Jail Road when two masked men opened fire.

No section of the Anti-Terrorism Act has been included in the FIR despite the fact that bodies of both the Shia leader and his driver, Qasim Ali, were burnt in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the local police have failed to find any clue to killers. Police officials also met the local religious scholars and assured early arrest of the killers.
