PTTF to evaluate juniors’ showing
KARACHI, April 18: The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) has asked two former players to evaluate the performance of country’s ping pong prodigies who featured at the two international competitions abroad recently.
Arif Nakhuda and Sohail Hayat who were assigned the task have been provided with the complete results and asked to submit their report soon.
They would be assisted by national coach, Arif Khan.
On one hand, the committee would focus on judging the performance of Pakistani players on the other it would have first hand information pertaining to standard of foreign players in the ITTF juniors’ circuit.
A seven-member team including three girls featured in the world juniors’ circuit at Algeria last month.
This was followed by participation of a 10-member team including three girls in U-18 and U-15 categories at the 3rd UAE World Table Tennis Tournament held at Al Ain recently.
According to results of UAE made available here, Pakistan went down to Egypt ‘B’ straight in U-18 team event. Owais lost 4-11, 7-11, 2-11, while Muzammil tasted 7-11, 7-11, 7-11 defeat. In doubles, the pair lost 11-13, 5-11, 5-11.
In singles, Muzammil was knocked out by Russain player 3-11, 6-11, 7-11 in the opener. This was followed by 5-11, 9-11, 6-11 defeat at the hands of Saudi opponent.
However, he extended Iranian opponent to full distance before bowing down 2-3. The scores were 11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-13.
Owais, on the other hand, lost his first battle to an Indian 3-11, 2-11, 3-11.
His second defeat came at the hands of Hong Kong player 4-11, 6-11, 8-11. He met with success in the third when he downed Qatar player 3-2 the score being 6-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-12, 11-8.
In girls, India ‘B’ inflicted 3-0 defeat on Pakistan. Ayesha Khan suffered 3-11, 7-11, 5-11 defeat, Ghalia Khurshid went down 8-11, 7-11, 12-14 while Maliha-Ghalia combination lost 3-11, 10-12, 8-11.
As far as singles are concerned, Maliha lost to Romanian 1-11, 2-11, 4-11, followed by another defeat to Indian 8-11, 6-11, 3-11.
Ghalia lost all her three games. She was shocked by Italian 5-11, 5-11, 7-11.
In the next, she lost to Indian 6-11, 6-11, 8-11.
Her third defeat came at the hands of Russain 5-11, 11-13, 6-11.Similarly, Ayesha lost her opening encounter to Italian 3-11, 7-11, 4-11. She then lost to Egyptian 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 5-11 before meeting her waterloo at the hands of Indian 3-11, 1-11, 6-11.
Mohammad Usman, Waqas Ayub, Salman Virk, Salman Shahid and Mohammad Owais featured in U-15 contest.
