SRINAGAR, April 17: Suspected separatist rebels ambushed the motorcade of a former speaker of Jammu-Kashmir state legislature on Monday, badly wounding the politician, killing his bodyguard and injuring two other people, police said.

Ali Mohammad Naik, the former state legislature speaker, was among the injured when guerillas opened fire on his car in Tral, a small town about 50km south of Srinagar, said local police superintendent G. M. Dar.

One of Naik’s bodyguards was killed in the attack and two others were wounded, Dar said.—AP
